Coogee Beach Jetty
At the time of taking these photos, I was halfway through a lithium plant contract, working with engineering drawings. After a long day in the office, there was nothing more I wanted than to get outside and take photos.
Nineteen days until the glorious start of summer and the atmosphere at the beach was incredible! Mates of all ages, particularly the younger ones, were enjoying each other’s company and having fun. There was no stress, no worries and everyone seemed to be having a great time.
History
Coogee Beach has been a popular tourist destination since the 1930s, with people travelling from as far as the Midland suburbs to enjoy the water. The Coogee Hotel and Poole's Tearooms in close proximity, with shacks and sheds stretching the entire length of the beach until its removal, it enticed even more people to come down to enjoy a day by the seaside, often armed with a picnic basket.
Constructed in 1960, the jetty has been used for recreational purposes ever since.
The original length of the jetty was 78m and the long low level platform stood at 12.7m above the low water mark.
The jetty has since undergone significant alteration with elements of the jetty being replaced as required.
