Naval Base Limestone Bush
Whilst this 9.17 hectare block of land has never been built on, let alone allocated a street number, furrows were ploughed along the east and south sides of the block during 1981. It’s difficult to imagine any success of cultivated crops in this area, particularly due to the concentrated existence of Tamala limestone and leached yellow sand.
Trees appear to have been planted in the furrows, as aerial imagery from the 1980’s show. Spaced out green clumps of bush along the lines began to grow, although by 1995, many trees appeared to have died or been removed. A number of them continued to grow throughout the decades and remain today.
