Melville Theatre Company Block

David J Burton established the Melville Theatre Company in 1982 in the Melville Civic Centre to provide a quality amateur theatre for the people of the area.

In 1987, MTC moved into the Roy Edinger Centre on Canning Highway. In the years that followed, MTC shared the venue with other groups which brought a range of challenges.

In 1998, the theatre company were granted sole management of the Roy Edinger Centre, which allowed them to "create a real theatre within the centre, including raked seating, carpeting and a new lighting and sound system".

In 2020, the Melville Theatre Company were evicted from their Roy Edinger Centre venue when it was repurposed as an aged care facility in 2020.

In February 2024, the City of Melville refurbished the Civic Centre's Main Hall in Booragoon, giving the theatre company a permanent home. When the idea of MTC moving into the Main Hall was first suggested amongst council members, ballroom dancers who were using the hall at the time, protested about being pushed out.

Roy Edinger Hall

Originally the Melville Community Association Centre was located in the Roy Edinger Hall, which was constructed in 1963. A new venue for the Melville Recreation Centre was later constructed across the road on a much bigger block of land.

The Hall was named after Roy Edinger, "a prominent local businessman and community leader who was especially active in Palmyra between the 1940s and 1960s".

Senior Citizens Club

The community centre for senior citizens provides recreational and social facilities with a range of events and activities including: indoor bowls, billiards, snooker, darts, day tours, tai chi, bingo, craft, Mahjong and a range of card games.
