Mundaring Men’s Shed Art

At the time of taking these photos in October 2022, a local lady told me that the Men’s Shed would soon be moving to new premises.

Twelve months later, an article published in the Echo Newspaper stated that was the case, with the Men’s Shed in the final stages of finishing their new venue. Lotterywest had given them a grant of $265,000, which would allow them to “finish fitting out its newest 6500sqm state-of-the-art complex project,” which had started in 2017.

It seems rather sad that such an important community organisation and support group for men had to struggle for that long to be able to obtain finances and resources to finish the site.

The new fit out includes “air conditioning units, shelving, power and lighting for the already finished structures”.

The premises are set to be one of the biggest Men’s Shed’s in Australia, certainly on a much bigger scale than their temporary building located on Jacoby Street, opposite the Mundaring Sculpture Park.

Sitting on a 900sqm block on Morilla Road, the new facilities includes “standalone woodwork and metal workshops, club rooms, a library, main hall and gallery”.

As for the existing artwork outside the old Jacoby Street Men’s Shed, an initial online search reveals nothing other than a listing as an attraction on the Mundaring Heritage, Art and Sculpture Trail.
