Paynes Find Decorated Tree
Whilst no information can be found with an initial online search of this Decorated Tree, Paynes Find is located on the Great Northern Highway, approximately 417km north-east of Perth.
The town was established as a gold rush settlement and whilst it's still in use for mining purposes, pastoral is also an important industry here.
Forming part of the Yalgoo Shire, the town was gazetted in 1911, the same year the Paynes Find Gold Battery was constructed. Named after Thomas Payne, he was the first person to discover gold in the area and registered a lease to mine gold with the Mines Department. He was allowed to crush his first gold-bearing ore for free at the State Government Battery, as a reward for his discovery.
By 1930, the prosperous town had a population of more than 500.
The Gold Battery was sold to the Taylor family in 1987 and whilst it's still in use today, it has become a tourist attraction.
