Fremantle Camp Squat

I got talking to a young man of around 65 near the Whale Tunnel in Fremantle. He'd been on the streets for awhile and was really struggling at the moment, as he was going through an application for redress which stemmed from his experiences as a child (maybe his early teens) whilst living in care or a government institution.

He showed me his bush home, which I thought was such a nice setup in the warm February weather. A cool afternoon breeze resembled the aircon. The peace and quiet occasionally disturbed by the murmur of talking passerbys and children shrieking on the beach.

Photographing his makeshift home documents his experiences living on the streets from an imagery point of view. Without it and despite the anonymity, he may as well not exist.​
