Development Begins
After years of development applications and proposals, action is finally taken on the Woolstores site. Demolition takes place quite quickly in January 2022 and what certainly feels like a rarity these days, redevelopment begins towards the end of the year (unlike the usual situation where sites remain vacant blocks of land for years to come).
The five-storey police station part of the development is dropped when the State Government decides to construct the station on the old Stan Reilly aged-care centre and emergency accommodation site. The building had been demolished on 27 November 2017 in anticipation of a 155-bay city centre carpark, which again is unsurprisingly normal, never came to fruition and remained a vacant block of land ever since.
The new Coles supermarket in the Woolstores development is expected to be open just after Christmas this year.

Development Stages
Stage 1B – Adina Hotel on the south-western corner of the Coles Woolstores site
Stage 2 – Construction of $65m build-to-rent accommodation and ground level commercial tenancies in the centre of the site
Stage 3 – Development of an aged care facility comprising of 120 rooms.
Unfortunately due to financial constraints and resource limitations in post-Covid years, Silverleaf Investments announce their withdrawal for the $65m apartment development at the Fremantle Coles Woolstores site in September 2024. They’ve also since announced delaying construction of the Adina hotel.
November 2023
A Tower Crane is Installed
A Comansa flat-top (hammerhead) crane is installed in early November 2023. It looks to be the same crane from Princess Margaret Hospital's demolition site (Comansa 21CJ290-18T).
Guessing from the photos taken, it looks to be about 30 metres tall with a 50 metre jib.
The crane is removed sometime around July 2024.
